Cloud-native earth observation (EO) data processing represents a fundamental paradigm shift, driven by the convergence of open EO data, cloud-native formats (COG, EOPF GeoZarr), and scalable cloud computing. While raw EO data requires significant effort to become analysis-ready — a process that might be redefined by satellite embeddings — cloud-native formats enable fast, efficient distributed geo-computation using overviews and small data chunks. Although Google Earth Engine (GEE) is currently the gold standard, this talk will show how a combination of existing Open Source tools/libraries has potential to create a truly viable and powerful open solution to geospatial data analytics.
