This foray critically examines the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in geography education, with a specific focus on remote sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). It explores how AI-driven platforms influence cognitive offloading processes, analytical reasoning, and the development of critical thinking competencies. Particular attention is given to field-based geospatial data acquisition using smartphones, small civil aerial drones (UAVs), and underwater remotely operated vehicles (ROVs). The work proposes a pedagogical framework for balancing AI augmentation with cognitive rigor in higher education geospatial curricula.
